The Lump of Coal Legend started several hundred years ago.
Some believe it began in Holland and others believe it started in Italy or England.
Regardless, the familiar storyline is that children who were particulaly naughty would get a piece of coal from Santa instead of a treat in their stockings hung by the fireplace.
We believe that there are many different uses for the lowly lump of coal. Coal can cajole, inspire, remind us and is even good for a few laughs.
